HOW TO USE THIS JOURNAL

Though you can use this journal however you like (truly), the pages are laid out with a specific process in mind to guide your dream exploration.

This dream journal is inspired by the Integrative Dreaming Practice developed by Fariba Bogzaran and Daniel Deslauriers. Described in their 2012 book “Integral Dreaming”, their practice aims to look holistically at the human experience of dreaming. Their research shows that blending creative exploration with thoughtful analysis allows for a deeper understanding of your dreams, and of yourself.

This book uses a two part system emphasizing both intuitive and analytical approaches to working with dreams. The two parts are:

1: Record and React (Intuitive)

In the first part, you will record your dream in the journal, and then react to it intuitively through sketching and automatic writing. The goal is to stay present and engage with the experience of the dream without rushing to interpret, judge, or explain it.

2: Return and Reflect (Analytic)

In the second part, you will return to your dream and inspired artwork with the goal of noticing the symbols and motifs that begin to naturally emerge. From there, you can begin to connect these elements to your waking life.
